Man confronted for locking puppy in trunk of his car

ALLEN PARK, Mich. (WJBK) - An Allen Park couple claims they watched a man put his puppy in a trunk and drive off.

When he came back - they decided to confront him. The woman and her boyfriend couldn't believe what they were seeing.  They felt they had no choice but to confront the guy they watched shove his puppy in the trunk on a blazing hot summer day. 

"My boyfriend was like did you really put your dog in the trunk of your car," said Mandy Keith. "He said 'Yep I'll do whatever the F I want.' That's when I snapped the pic of his license plate."

They watched and then waited. When the man drove back to his friend's house on Laurence Street in Allen Park, Mandy Keith says they decided to confront the man about what they saw - all of it caught on video.

VIDEO: Keith's Boyfriend: "I'm telling you I just saw you put your dog in the trunk."

Dog owner: "I sure did, I took her a couple blocks down."

Keith: "It doesn't matter; you can't do that."

Dog owner: "I got clothes back there, she is not about to (expletive) up my (expletive)."

Keith: "Well maybe you should take your clothes out if you are taking your dog somewhere."

Dog owner: "I just went around the corner."

Keith: "It is still wrong; how would you like to get thrown in the trunk."

Keith says the pit bull puppy appeared healthy and had been tied up on a short leash behind a house across the street. When they saw what happened they immediately called police and then Downriver Animal Control who we're told is now involved.

"They don't deserve to have pets, something needs to happen, it is not right," Keith said. "He basically said he didn't want to mess up his clothes that were in the back seat. My opinion is put your clothes in the trunk. Your clothes don't need air to breathe and room to move and to be able to see. It must have been terrifying for that little pup."

Mandy Keith has since posted the disturbing video on her Facebook page - which has now been seen and shared thousands of times by people outraged - not just by this man's actions - but his reaction to the alleged animal abuse.

"Dogs come and go," the dog's owner says on video. 

"See that's why you shouldn't have a dog," she responded.

Mandy Keith also posted the man's car and license plate on her page. FOX 2 found the car in the neighborhood - but the dog owner or pit bull puppy was nowhere to be found.

"I'm overwhelmed by it all," she said. "I did not expect it to go that far but I am glad it did. If nothing else there's one more person who realizes you can't do your animals like that.

Animal control told Mandy they would be speaking with the dog owner tomorrow, that's because they have the license plate and now the video.
