Man shot to death in Sterling Heights parking lot
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJBK) - Sterling Heights Police are investigating the first murder of the year after a man was fatally shot in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Sterling Heights.
Police were called to the complex around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday near Plumbrook and Schoenherr roads, which is between Metro Parkway and 17 Mile Road.
When police arrived, they found a man was lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound. Police say a group of people were around at the time of the shooting.
Other witnesses say the shooting was the result of a fight at a bar. Police say after the victim was shot, he was taken to the hospital where he later died.
"They took him away and it was later on around 7 AM that I heard a woman outside just wailing," Gabriel said. "It can happen anywhere. And I don't think one incident means it's going to be a common occurrence."
Police do not have anyone in custody at this time, and are not yet releasing the victim's name.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
