Michigan Humane Society: "Kitten Season is no picnic"

Spring is rapidly approaching and the Michigan Humane Society is reminding pet owners that, while kittens are adorable, for every area animal shelter and rescue, Kitten Season is No Picnic!  The spring weather brings an increase in homeless litters of kittens. And by summer, every shelter and rescue is overwhelmed with homeless cats and kittens in need of care and new homes. It's no picnic! Kittens can start reproducing at just 4 to 6 months of age, so ensure your cat is spayed or neutered prior to 4 months. Kittens having kittens!!  And they can get pregnant again while they are nursing.  If an unsterilized pet gets out even once, it will almost surely result in another homeless litter.    Need more reasons?  Having your pet spayed or neutered before 4 to 6 months, and before a female cat's first heat, also provides the maximum health and behavior benefits, so set up an appointment for your pet today!  Click on the video to learn more about this week's adoptable pet.
