Police find woman in accident had been shot to death

Detroit police are investigating a fatal shooting on Detroit's west side.

Police say a woman crashed her car into a utility pole near Ellis and Mansfield streets, which is near Greenfield and Joy roads. When police checked out the accident scene, though, they discovered the woman had been shot in the chest.

Police determined she had been shot about a block away. This happened just after midnight Wednesday morning.

Police say the woman is in her early 60s, but have not released her name.

Police have not yet confirmed a motive for the shooting, but believe the woman may have been the victim of a drive-by shooting targeted at someone else.
