Police: Man shot after attacking officer with lawnmower blade in Trenton

Police have shot a man who allegedly attacked an officer with a lawnmower blade Thursday.

The incident happened in the 2800 block of Longmeadow near West Road at about 4:30 p.m. said Police Chief Steven Voss.

The 18-year-old suspect was tased first, then shot by the officer. It is unclear what lead to the incident or why police were at the scene before the attack.

According to Ron Savage, the police officer who was attacked is recovering at home with his family. 

The condition of the suspect, who is an 18-year-old student at Trenton High School, is unknown at this time. 

Neighbor Richard Lavigne said he is a classmate of the 18-year-old and that he had been asked to leave the school today.

"I heard he was causing a disturbance so they asked him to go home," he said. "I just saw police come up, about six of them. They came up and ran into the backyard. 

"Then I saw ambulances pull up. I didn't hear anything, I was listening to music."
