Road closed ahead: 696 closures planned this week

The summer construction project around Metro Detroit continues with another total closure of 696 planned for this weekend, plus more closures throughout the week.

It starts Tuesday night at 9 o'clock. Westbound I-696 will be closed between Orchard Lake Road and I-275, leaving the interstate lanes that are open at two lanes. Two hours later, another lane will be closed, leaving just one lane open for drivers.

The work will continue on the three lanes throughout the night until 5 a.m. when all lanes will reopen.

This planed closure will happen on Wednesday and Thursday as well.

On Friday, all lanes of westbound 696 will be closed again starting at 9 p.m. from Lahser Rd. to the I-275/I-96/M-5 interchange. All ramps leading onto westbound 696 between Lahser Road and the I-275/I-96/M-5 interchange will also be closed.

The same 10 mile stretch of interstate was closed two weeks ago as well.

The detour is to to take the Lodge to US-24/Telegraph and head south. When you get to Grand River/M5, turn right and follow M-5 west until you get to I-96.

The closed lanes are part of the I-275 project that requires 696 to be repaired. Later this summer, there will be two eastbound closures as well.
