The Scott at Brush Park project breaks ground Monday

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan is among those celebrating progress on a major project in the heart of the city.

Groundbreaking began Monday for The Scott at Brush Park, a high-end apartment complex located at Woodward Avenue and Erskine,

When finished, the building will hold nearly 200 apartments, as well as retail space.

The units are expected to rent from about $1,000 per month to as much as $3,000 a month.

Duggan said he's always happy to attract new people to move to the city.

"It is just so exciting," he said. "I went to work in downtown Detroit in 1981. I've been here every day for 35 years, watching people move out. There's nothing more enjoyable than groundbreaking (for) people moving back in."

The building is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
