Trump, Clinton retain big leads in Michigan

As Super Tuesday draws closer, the two leaders of the Republican and Democratic parties are holding their leads in Michigan, according to a new poll conducted by FOX 2/Mitchell.

The most recent poll shows Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton continues to dominate Vermont U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders among likely Democratic Party Presidential Primary voters in Michigan. She holds a lead of 65 to 31 percent with 4 percent remaining undecided. Her lead is almost identical to the lead she had last week.

On the GOP side, Donald Trump has maintained his large percentage of voters with 41 percent. However, Florida U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (19 percent) almost doubled his share of the vote and Texas U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (16 percent) also moved up this week while Ohio Governor John Kasich (11 percent) and Dr. Ben Carson (7 percent) stayed where they were last week.

“Hillary Clinton continues to lead Bernie Sanders by a large margin after her victory in the Nevada Caucuses. She climbed 5 percent while Sanders gained 4  since our last survey. It is clear, Clinton is on the way to a huge victory in Michigan March 8th,” Steve Mitchell, CEO of Mitchell Research & Communications said. “Trump’s percentage remains solid at 41 percent, while Rubio has moved back into second place in Michigan at 19 percent, still trailing by 22 percent. Cruz is close behind Rubio with 16 percent while Kasich still has not increased his share of the vote. Trump remains the real beneficiary of this three-way fight for second in Michigan. The longer the field is muddled up with three viable alternatives to Trump, the stronger Trump looks. These data are almost identical to the positions of the top three candidates two weeks ago."

The Republican poll was conducted Tuesday night, before the results of the Nevada Caucuses were known.

Seventy-one percent of Trump voters strongly agree that they “are mad as hell and they won’t take it anymore.” Supporters of none of the other candidates reach more than 50% strong agreement on that statement except for Cruz supporters (51 percent).

In Wayne County, Clinton leads 76%-17% and in Oakland County, Clinton leads 73%-28%
