Violence reported at U-M Board of Regents meeting with protesters, police

The incident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. outside the meeting in the Michigan Union Anderson Room.

University of Michigan Spokesman Rick Fitzgerald says eight protesters were arrested after they broke through a table barrier, knocking over four tables. 

Fitzgerald says police tackled the protesters, while the meeting continued after the incident. 

Police maintained a "heavy presence" outside the meeting, which continued after closing its doors. 

Protesters continued chanting outside without further physical conflict.
