Woman killed in Oxford hit and run on Drahner Road
OXFORD, Mich. (WJBK) - In Oxford a newspaper carrier discovered the female victim of a hit and run on the side of the road.
Oakland County Sheriff's Office says that 26-year-old Jordyn Puckett, from Orion Township walking along Drahner Road, near Olive Road, had been hit and killed.
A newspaper delivery woman discovered her body just after 4 a.m. Resident Gary Rigney says he remembers a loud noise waking his wife.
"It was horrible, it was sickening," he said. "She heard a thump and she looked out the window and didn't see anything."
Oakland County road crews were at the scene as police say a 19-year-old man from Macomb Township turned himself in Tuesday afternoon.
The man was driving a damaged black 2015 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, is now, in jail.
"We recovered some plastic and chrome from the vehicle that hit her," said Michael McCabe, Oakland County undersheriff.
Police say Puckett, riding with two of her friends along Drahner Road, got into an argument. As Puckett got out of the car and began walking, police say her friends tried to convince her to get back in, but she refused.
Rigney said that speeding is common along Drahner Road.
"It is supposed to be 40 miles an hour," he said. "But they go fast."
Now as police deliver heartbreaking news to her family, Rigney says he couldn't help but console one of her loved ones, arriving outside his home.
"They're taking it really bad as you would imagine," he said. "I just hugged her. It was all I could do."
