After a day of high temperatures and sunny weather, a severe weather system is expected to hit the Southeast Michigan area at around 11 p.m. These storms have already brought about severe thunderstorms and tornado warnings in Illinois and Wisconsin as the system prepares to trek across Lake Michigan.

Residents in part of Cheboygan County have been told to evacuate after a levee breach which officials say is unrelated to the water level situation at Cheboygan Dam.

Time ticking as DNR brings pumps and sandbags to Cheboygan dam to control water levels

The Michigan DNR is working to prevent disaster in Cheboygan as water levels move toward the top of the Cheboygan Dam. The DNR said they have begun placing "super sacks" and placing pumps in place to move water around the dam.

Cheboygan dam water levels rise 6 inches as crews work to bring in more pumps, sand bags

The Cheboygan dam water level rose 6.07 inches from Monday morning to Tuesday morning. Crews have removed gates from the dam, added pumps and sand bags, and will use more pumps as they work to get the level down.
