13-year-old shot while sleeping inside Detroit home

A 13-year-old boy was shot in the foot while he was sleeping early Thursday morning.

"His feet were here, he got shot and was lying diagonal like this," said Michael Garnes. "The (bullets) kind of flew like this."

Bullets pierced through the outside of the house in the 8400 block of Plainview near Joy and Evergreen on Detroit's west side.

"Whoever did it, knew what they were doing," said Michael Garnes who lives at the house.

A bullet also hit the TV.

The 13-year-old victim doesn't live here, he was just spending the night. Not far away in another room slept baby triplets and their older brother.

"We had just laid them down to sleep," Garnes said. "We are glad about that."

This is the fourth child shot in less than a month in Detroit.

On March 23, 8-year-old Kaia Filson was shot in the arm at a Shamrock gas station on the corner of Plymouth and Wyoming on the city's west side. April 5, a 7-year-old was hit in the neck by a stray bullet from outside while he was in his upstairs bedroom on Chelsea Street near Gratiot and Conner on the city's east side. And on April 7, 3-year-old London Henderson was shot in the head while she sat in her mom's car at a Citgo gas station on Livernois on Detroit's west side.

All of the children survived and police say none of them were the intended targets. Detroit Police Chief James Craig called the shootings tragic and senseless.
