Father found dead inside home had been shot several times

DETROIT (WJBK) - A young father was found shot and killed inside his home in southwest Detroit.

Officers found the body of 45-year-old Bryan Ray Monday afternoon inside his home in the 2600 block of Wabash Street, which is near the I-75 Service Drive and 14th Street. Neighbors hadn't heard from or seen him in a few days, and say they saw Ray arguing with his girlfriend Saturday afternoon - and that they heard gunshots later that night.

"It's kind of like a dream, and it's not a dream, too," says the victim's father, David Ray.

Police found Bryan's body around 2 p.m. Monday during a welfare check. Bryan was found shot in his head, arms and legs.

"They could see his feet through the window; they fired, I guess, a bullet through the window and they said he's not responding and moving, so my daughter in Florida called the police and they came out and I guess got in through the back," says David.

The drama ramped up as Bryan's family members made their way to his house. Police took his girlfriend into custody when she got into a shouting match with relatives.

Neighbors say they saw her arguing with Bryan at his home Saturday afternoon. She left soon after that -- but neighbors say they heard gunshots a few hours later.

"I was standing in the basement here and we heard some gunshots. I didn't think twice about it, but there were some gunshots," a neighbor told FOX 2's Randy Wimbley. He says he heard about five or six gunshots.

Police aren't sure right now, though, if that's when Bryan was killed.

"He was a good man. He loved his family; took care of [himself]; earned a good living; and would never cause harm to nobody," a family friend of more than 20 years told us. The family friend says he and Bryan worked together often doing electric work and plumbing in Corktown.
