Two separate issues led to Ford Motor Company issuing a recall for over 100,000 Mustangs in the United States.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 110,626 Mustangs were recalled over malfunctioning windshield wipers and a rear differential pinion shaft that could break.

Mustang GTD

What we know:

One recall impacted 67,842 Mustang and Mustang GTD vehicles due to problems with their wipers. The NHTSA says the windshield wipers in those vehicles may only work at their high-speed setting in certain cold temperature conditions.

Additionally, the fluid washing system could fail completely in those vehicles.

Mustang Mach-E

What we know:

Unrelated to the GTD, Ford issued another recall for 42,784 of the Mustang Mach-E models. Those models are equipped with a rear differential pinion shaft that could fail, which would cause a loss of drive power and sling the vehicle into an unintended drift unless the parking brake is applied.

What you can do

What's next:

Ford is notifying affected vehicle owners by mail and instructing them on the next steps. Owners are encouraged to contact their local Ford or Lincoln dealership to schedule an inspection as soon as possible.

Any necessary repairs or replacement of affected components will be performed free of charge by authorized Ford or Lincoln dealerships as part of the recall.
