Large man sexually assaults, carjacks woman in broad daylight

Police are asking for help identifying a man wanted for raping and robbing an employee at a business in Westland, then stealing his victim's car to flee the scene.

The incident took place around 3:30 p.m. Friday.

His alleged victim is shaken to her core.

"We are obviously are not getting too specific in the interest of the victim," said Sgt. Robert Wilkie of Westland police. "But the series of events is that a person walked into a business in the area of Wayne Road and Palmer Road. They committed armed robbery, after the armed robbery was committed, they committed sex assault, and after the sexual assault was committed, they then stole the victim's vehicle and fled the scene."

Police have since recovered the car and spoken with the victim, who was able to provide a description of her attacker. Officials say the suspect would have a hard time blending into a crowd.

"The whole body size of the suspect stands out to me. He's supposed to be a very large-statured gentleman," Wilkie said, adding the suspect's description is a man ranging from 250 to 300 lbs, taller than 6'0".

Police say he was wearing a black T-shirt, gray gym shorts, and a black cloth over his head.

"This is not something that reguarly occurs in this community," Wilkie said. "So we have all hands on deck investigating this, doing whatever we can."

Any one who may recognize the sketch or know anything about the crimes is asked to call Westland police.
