Livonia police fatally shoot armed suicidal man in Plymouth

An armed man believed to be suicidal was fatally shot by Livonia police Friday night.

The shooting happened on Tavistock Drive, just north of Joy Road in Plymouth Township at about 9 p.m.

At 7:45 p.m. the Westland police tried to stop a man reported to be armed and suicidal. He led police on a chase which was called off, Livonia police located his gun at Hix and Joy, while he had been seen in the neighborhood with a hand gun.

Officers responded to the area and located the man, who they say was armed. During the confrontation with an officer, he was shot by an officer.

The man died from his injuries, Michigan State Police is investigating.
