Man arrested after stabbing woman, barricading inside home in Northville Twp, police say

A man has been arrested after police say he stabbed a woman and barricaded himself inside a home overnight in Northville.

Christian Gardner, 51, on Monroe has been charged with three counts of assault with intent to murder, felonious assault, resisting and obstructing the police, and second-offense domestic violence.

Police say the incident began around 9:30 p.m. Thursday when they were called to a home in the 19500 block Northridge Drive for a domestic incident. When police got to the house, they saw a man and a woman outside.

Police say the 44-year-old woman was visibly hurt, bleeding from three abdominal stab wounds. The man, who is believed to have stabbed her multiple times, went back inside the house and refused to come out.

Police worked to negotiate with the man for several hours before he surrendered. Just after 3 a.m. Friday he came outside and was taken into custody.

The extent of the woman's injuries aren't known.
