Man arrested for phone threats to Auburn Hills businesses

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - Two schools were on lockdown after threats were made at two separate businesses in Auburn Hills.

Police say it all around 6:45 a.m. Monday when they received the first of two threatening calls about two businesses: Inalfa Roof Systems and AirBoss Flexible Products.

But just before 1 p.m. school officials lifted the lockdown and allow school to be dismissed as normal at 2 p.m. police gave the all clear to both businesses. 

At 4 p.m. police announced the arrest of a 39 year-old Flint man who was working at one of the Flexible Products buildings.

"Threats to businesses or any facility is not acceptable," said  Lt. Jill McDonnell of Auburn Hills police. "It's a crime to make a threat by phone. The outcome of the investigation will be presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor for charges.

"A male caller made a threat to a business located at Joslyn and I-75 area. And then a second threat came in to a business at Auburn and I-75. The person was threatening to do harm to people at the business."

Within minutes, police made their presence known at each business, telling employees to stay inside their buildings.

As the investigation continued, the Avondale school district decided to put several schools on lockdown.

"There have been no threats to students to schools," said Superintendent Dr. James Schwartz, who called it a precautionary measure.

Monday afternoon police continued to keep a watchful eye at both business and the schools. Neither Airboss or Inalfa would comment.
