Southfield street's crumbling condition 'scary' for drivers

A nightmare stretch of road has opened up in Southfield thanks to the freeze-thaw cycle

If you ever wondered what it would be like to drive on Krypton after it blew up, try Rutland Avenue.

It is a name nobody could have made up.

"I get nervous driving on it because I don't want to ruin my car," said one driver.

This crumbling strip of shame is in Southfield-- the last evidence that this area of Nine Mile Road once featured a Ramada Inn and North Park Plaza.

Now it is the bane of college students at Oakland Community College. This is one spot the patch patrol needs to visit, post haste.

Tonight there are fewer ruts on Rutland as late Tuesday afternoon; crews were out there patching up some of those potholes.
