On Monday, Kayla Marcoux was walking her three-year-old Bernadoodle named Gilly near Holland Road between Goddard and Wick. During their walk, a truck turned onto the road in the wrong lane, hit them, and kept on going, with security cameras along the route picking the truck up.
What we don't know:
Newman allegedly crossed over Holland Road before running over the victim's dog.
It's unclear what caused him to leave the northbound lane, as well as why he failed to stop after striking the victim.
The backstory:
Police began investigating the case after a woman went into the local police department to report a hit-and-run traffic crash on Feb. 3.
The woman told police she had been walking her dog northbound on the west shoulder of Holland Road when a white Ford Explorer struck her and her dog.
The woman took the dog to a nearby animal hospital where it was pronounced dead.
