Ford is building a new pickup truck that marks the beginning of a new era for the automaker as its leadership strives to electrify more of its fleet while keeping costs down for those considering a new vehicle.

Slate is trying to introduce an a la carte model of making electric vehicles that puts the control in the customer’s hands.

Michigan is one of three states receiving part of the massive investment from GM.

A recent New York Times headline claimed automakers want the incoming Trump Administration to "require" them to sell electric vehicles. Analysts aren't impressed with that perspective, but agree the Republican's hostility toward the industry is worrying car makers.

"Tariffs may seem controversial, but maybe they will help the local industry in terms of competition against international manufacturers of electric vehicles," he said.

Among the biggest barriers to electric vehicle adoption is not having enough chargers. But one woman's invention offers a solution to that.

“What they mean for the workforce is that Ford is probably going to need more people on the gasoline side of the business. Probably not as many as they anticipated on the electric side."

The automaker said Wednesday it was shifting EV strategy toward two new pickups that will be battery powered.

"I'm suggesting she try to modify and support a slow-down. We are moving too fast," he said. "We need to deal with hybrids and not push so much."

While several high brass political figures in Michigan support the president's push to produce and adopt more electric vehicles, the answer is more complicated among residents.

Stumbling blocks for buyers include cost, a lack of available charging stations and range anxiety from the annual study.

It includes a 33-inch display screen and an estimated range of about 300 miles on a full charge.

“We want to track the best talent out there. and as we looked at those studies for hardware, engineers in particular, there’s no place like Michigan," said Gale Halsey, vice president, Lucid.

Construction on the fast charging stations can begin in the next couple months. Companies have five years to finish the job.

The shrinking production will impact 1,400 workers at Ford, including about 700 employees being transferred to Michigan Assembly.
