War on Terror Wall of Remembrance comes to Troy

The War on Terror Wall of Remembrance pays tribute to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice dating from 1983 Beirut, Lebanon Marine Barracks bombing, through the 2021 withdrawal of forces from Afghanistan. The public can view the War on Terror Wall of Remembrance from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from September 5-7 at White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery in Troy.

A head on collision left one person dead, and another in critical condition as the cars ricocheted off each other and one went through the wall at Avenue Grill in Detroit at about 2:30 a.m. Sept. 6.

State police rescue California woman lost in woods filming reality TV segment

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Gaylord post assisted the Otsego County Sheriff's Department in searching for a missing California woman who was lost in Pigeon River State Forest overnight Sept. 5. The woman, 36, was a contestant in a YouTube survival challenge and had become lost the previous evening but was not reported until 5 a.m. Sept. 6. A K-9 unit, and the police helicopter were used to help locate the woman just after 10:30 a.m. The woman was walked out of the woods without incident once she was found.

Detroit considers placing tax on event tickets

The possible move is under consideration by City Council with the goal of raising more money to cover city operations. The reaction is definitely mixed. This all stems from a group that studies ways to bring more tax revenue into cities and some members of Detroit City Council are leaning into it.

Man and woman honored for helping rescue children from Detroit fire

Angela Boone, who lives on the street, was rushing around calling for help. She pulled one of the babies out of the basement window after it was handed to her. Meanwhile, she flagged down another man, T.J. Davis, who was awarded on Friday. He kicked the door in, which led to a room filled with smoke, and was able to get the three-year-old out of the house.

Apartment fire displaces Westland residents

Eight units at a Westland apartment complex were destroyed Friday morning. The fire department said it is working with the American Red Cross to help the 10 to 12 people who are now without homes.
