Days after severe weather knocked out power for hundreds of thousands of homes across Southeast Michigan, outages remain a problem for neighborhoods around Metro Detroit. As of the morning of July 8, more than 5,000 homes are still suffering from no electricity.

The diarrheal illness is caused by infection with the parasite Cyclospora cayetanensis, which experts say is found in developing countries and is spread by food or water contaminated with feces. The illness is described as having "a two-week case of diarrhea," said Doctor Joel Kammeyer from the Detroit Medical Center.

Rzewnicki is co-founder of The Karens. They rescue dogs and do outreach. FOX 2 was with them over the winter in the freezing cold as they provided supplies to two dogs named Weather and Benjamin, whose owner refused to surrender them. When she stopped by that same home last Thursday during the extreme heat, she was worried.

Our crews have seen a lot of police activity in the neighborhood where it happened. We've seen a lot of activity, including what appeared to be a teenager taken into custody right in front of us. Police also executed a search warrant at a home just a block from here.
