As snow squalls that blew into Metro Detroit Wednesday night, police responded to 86 crashes across Metro Detroit: “Weather doesn’t cause crashes, drivers do!"

Commuters should plan ahead and expect their trip to work to take longer than usual thanks to a snow band that dumped and continues to dump flakes across Southeast Michigan.

A snowy night is giving way to slippery roads and school closures around Southeast Michigan.

Areas around Detroit could see up to an inch of snow accumulation on the sidewalks. Snow squalls will be at their most likely Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

The unusual incident took place in Rumford, about 80 miles north of Portland.

Snow, subzero wind chills, and gale warnings in the nearby Great Lakes are what Southeast Michigan is up against today and tomorrow as winter weather returns to the forecast.
