Detroit warming centers open amid freezing temperatures

Four warming shelters have been opened to accommodate those that need some warmth amid the freezing start to the new year.

The coldest temperatures of the season hit Southeast Michigan Monday

While we won't be near the record Monday morning, we will skirt in the teens until noon today. We'll be greeted by more sun and some wind before the next system starts to move in Tuesday.

In total, many areas of Metro Detroit should pick up between 2" to 4" of snowfall which is making for a tricky commute this morning. Good news is by mid to late morning most of the snow should start to wind down. Much colder will is settle in place with highs only in the mid 20s along with wind chills in the teens. Take it easy as you are out and about this morning. More snow chances are on the way by midweek.

Winter Weather Advisory issued for SE Michigan with 2-5 inches of snow expected

Snow is expected to fill in late this evening. This will result in periods of light to moderate snowfall, with snowfall rates ranging between a quarter-inch to a half-inch per hour.

Winter Weather Advisory is going into effect this evening through mid-morning Sunday. After a mild and foggy start this morning, accumulating snow is on the way. In total, we should pick up between 2 to 4 inches of snow with a few spots picking up a little more. Expect temperatures to slip and slide through the day with temps only in the mid 30s this afternoon before falling into the 20s overnight.

Michigan to see major snowmaker New Year's Day weekend; up to 5 inches expected in some areas

Friday will be relatively dry, but an impactful snowmaker will reach Michigan by midday Saturday and precipitate until at least Sunday morning, making weekend driving a potential nightmare.

After this morning's fog burns off, expect mostly cloudy skies with mild temps in the mid 40s. Around midnight tonight, a few stray showers are possible. Saturday evening into early Sunday morning, we're expecting accumulating snow showers on the order of 2 to 4 inches with several areas picking up over 5 inches of snowfall by midday on Sunday.
