Winter weather freezing Michigan: Subzero wind chill numbing the state this week
(FOX 2) - From subzero temperatures spanning the week to incoming snow Monday night, Michigan will find itself in the middle of winter weather that feels like it's blowing out of the Arctic for the next few days.
Most of the eastern side of Michigan, including all of metro Detroit, is under a Cold Weather Advisory until Wednesday. The cold climate will make any time spent outside hazardous for those unprepared.
Here is what we're looking at for the next few days.
Winter Weather
Big picture view:
The National Weather Service announced a Cold Weather Advisory for counties around the eastern half of Michigan, including Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Monroe, Livingston, and Washtenaw counties.
Temperatures with the wind blowing could fall as far as 20 degrees below zero. While there will be some moments of relief during the day on Tuesday, it's still going to feel like it's below zero.
The worst of it will be late at night.
There is also the threat of snowfall Monday night, with up to half an inch that could fall by early morning Tuesday, the National Weather Service says.

Timeline:
Temperatures will range from 9 degrees to -1 degrees over the three-day period. The Cold Weather Advisory will last until midday Wednesday.
- Monday temperatures will fall to 7 degrees with wind chill conditions bottoming out at 8 degrees below zero
- Tuesday temperatures will look similar, maxing out at 7 degrees in the middle of the day. By midnight, temperatures will feel as cold as 14 degrees below zero
- Wednesday will start below zero degrees before hitting around 8 degrees by midday
Snow is expected to fall starting around 4 p.m. on Monday and will finish by 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
The next time Southeast Michigan climbs over freezing will maybe be this weekend.

What you can do:
The health concern includes frostbite for anyone whose skin is exposed longer than 30 minutes during the coldest temperatures.
There is also a threat to pets, who should be kept indoors as much as possible during the freezing temperatures.
With a Cold Weather Advisory, the National Weather Service recommends frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Portable heaters can be helpful, but make sure generators don't operate inside.
If anyone does need to seek some help from the cold, there is a list of warming centers available this week. Find them here.
School closures
What they're saying:
Hundreds of schools will be closed on Tuesday, with some even planning to be closed Wednesday due to the cold.
That includes Detroit Public School Community District, the largest educational district in the state.
