After pulling over at the crash, the officers approached the Expedition on foot when the suspect opened fire. Police returned gunfire and likely wounded the suspect, applied first aid, and transported him to a nearby hospital in custody.

The two Michigan State Police troopers who were shot Friday evening have been released from the hospital and are recovering at home, MSP says.

Police say an officer and a child from a second vehicle were injured.

One of the shots struck the victim in the left bicep.

According to officials, one of the State troopers has been treated and released from the hospital.

“Both (troopers) are in a lot of pain as you can imagine," White said. "One of them has an incredible sense of humor, so he made a joke for me to mention to his colonel that he won’t be able to make the meeting tomorrow."

"The individual who was inside, he was in a bad situation but making a decision to harm himself or others would only make it worse. So to the family who helped bring this to a peaceful resolution, we thank them."

According to court documents regarding Michael Anthony Carson, all four charges were dropped, using the term final nolle prosequi.

Michigan State Police conducted the raid in conjunction with the Detroit Police Department.

“We want to remind everyone to stay in your car after a crash. However, the at-fault driver should have not even been on the road in the first place," said Michigan State Police Lt. Mike Shaw.

Michigan State Police said a man who ran into the woods with a gun was found with a single gunshot wound and was pronounced dead.

"He has all kinds of broken bones, lacerated liver, a collapsed lung," Fitzgerald said. "He just underwent another surgery this morning."

At the time of the attack, the suspect had just crashed his car and was acting strange, claiming to be an alien and when police officers went to provide aid. At that point, Detroit police say the man started striking one of the officers.

Michigan State Police said the shooting of a woman on I-94 after she said she she got an uncomfortable feeling while stopping at a Detroit gas station was not random.

A naked woman with a machete brought I-96 to a complete stop on Saturday and Detroit Police were able to safely get her the help she needs.
