Life-threatening single digit temps in Metro Detroit problematic for shelters during COVID-19 pandemic

Not everyone has the fortune of a shelter and a hot meal during this brutal cold but the Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries is still making it happen, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Arctic blast of frigid air on the way for Metro Detroit, winter weather advisory until 10 a.m.

The snow is done but the freezing winter temperatures are just getting started. Expect a chilly weekend with air temperatures dropping to the teens. Wind chill will drop temperatures even further.

We are off to a very chilly start this morning with wind chills at and below zero at times. Into this afternoon, though actual temps should top out around 20 degrees, our wind chills will only feel like upper single digits. Along with a few morning snow flurries, more snow showers are on the way overnight tonight into early Sunday morning. A trace to 2 inches of light, fluffy snow is expected by Sunday morning. The coldest "high temperature in over 2 years is expected tomorrow with highs around 15 degrees.
