More General Motors and Ford employees were told to not come to work this week as the UAW strike continues.

About 25,000 UAW members at Big Three facilities around the country are on strike Monday morning. Thousands of union members at GM and Ford facilities joined the strike Friday.

The UAW’s targeted strikes against General Motors, Stellantis and Ford began at select plants after the union’s contract with the companies expired two weeks ago. The union vowed to grow the walkouts if it did not receive what it calls substantially improved contract offers — and the picket lines have gotten bigger since.

Ford President and CEO Jim Farley will provide an update on negotiations with the UAW on Friday afternoon after union members at its Chicago Assembly Plant were called to strike.

UAW President Shawn Fain called on 7,000 Ford and General Motors union members to join the strike Friday. Workers at Ford Chicago Assembly Plant and GM Lansing Delta Assembly will walk to the picket line at noon.

“In '04 I bought an expedition that we built," he said. "Right now, because of (the pay) I’m stuck at, I can’t think of buying what we’re building."

Stellantis says it made a record offer supporting job security with a 21.4 percent compounded wage increase and $1 billion in retirement security benefits, But union leaders we talked with say there’s still a major disconnect.

It was a day of firsts for both the UAW and the U.S. presidency as both were joined on the picket line in Metro Detroit.

Online, the company said called hosting Trump a "tremendous opportunity" after the former president said he'd deliver remarks to UAW members at the manufacturer.

The $3.5 billion plant is being built in Marshall. But its approval and ties to China has worried both local residents and lawmakers.

General Motors and Stellantis slammed the UAW's decision to strike against more plants Friday, calling it unnecessary and refuting what the union said about the automakers' offers.

"Honestly I didn’t want to go through a strike again but I had to do what I have to do, to support my family because inflation is out of control," said Aleshia Price, UAW Local 653.

The UAW strike could last for several months, based on the strategy that union president Shawn Fain has implemented -- which could spell major problems for Detroit's Big Three.

Negotiations between the union and Stellantis have not made progress, prompting workers to walk off the job at dozens of plants that feed automaker's plants.

Ford has been spared from the most recent round of UAW strikes as 38 GM and Stellantis plants are joining the picket line at noon on Friday. But the UAW and Ford agree that they're not done yet.

UAW President Shawn Fain set noon Friday as a deadline for that progress with Ford, Stellantis, and General Motors or more workers will join the picket line. He's expected to announce the next striking plants at 10 a.m.
