16-year-old boy shot in the head, found dead near Detroit park

At approximately 8:15 p.m. on AUg. 23, a 16-year-old boy was found unresponsive at the Butzel playground located in the 14800 block of Monte Vista in Detroit, with a gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to a local hospital by medics where he succumbed to his injuries.

Alleged Henry Ford Hospital shooter arrested

Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison said that alleged Henry Ford Hospital shooter Mario Green, and a person who was trying to harbor him, were arrested overnight, following the fatal shooting at the hospital on Aug. 22.

Palmer Park Bandshell re-opens in Detroit

The bandshell originally opened at the Historic Michigan State Fairgrounds in 1938 and closed in 2008 when the State of Michigan closed the State Fair. In 2020, the property was sold to Amazon for a new distribution center that employs nearly 4,000 people. There was strong community support for saving the bandshell including 60,000 petition signatures gathered by the State Fair Development Coalition. Since the development encompassed the historic bandshell site, the City of Detroit agreed to move the bandshell to Palmer Park in District 2, following an extensive restoration process.
