Friday is the 40th day of the UAW strike at General Motors, and it's also the day their votes are due on the tentative contract. It's expected that the deal will pass and workers will be back on the job this weekend.

Voting is still underway by UAW members on a proposed contract with GM as workers at the Detroit Hamtramck plant case their ballots.

Workers at one of the largest General Motors factories have voted to ratify a new contract with the company, an indication that a five-week strike could be coming to an end.

Superintendent of Detroit Schools Dr. Nikolai Vitti is three years into his position at the district which is coming out of federal oversight for the first time in years.

With most of the heavy lifting out of the way between the UAW and General Motors, all of what remains is voting between union members. As the UAW strike entered its 36th day, member groups were beginning to vote on a proposed negotiation that was struck between the union and the automaker last week. Early returns are pointing towards approval - at least at Local 160.

At lunchtime at Royal Barbecue Friday, the mood was upbeat. 

The picket lines continue - at least for another eight days.

The UAW National GM Council has voted in favor of the tentative deal with General Motors, sending the vote now onto the entire membership Thursday afternoon. Though thousands of UAW workers will still be off the job as the union hasn't chosen just yet to end the strike.

As General Motors and the United Auto Workers agree on a tentative labor contract Wednesday, trust becomes a key factor in moving the deal forward.

The UAW GM Council has recommended ratification of the tentative agreement but said the strike to conitnue until it has been approved by union members.

The UAW announced a tentative agreement has been reached between the union and General Motors to end the strike that started on September 15.

A former employee of the Detroit Hamtramck GM plant died earlier this month when she suffered a heart attack on the picket line.

General Motors CEO Mary Barra joined negotiators at the bargaining table, an indication that a deal may be near to end a monthlong strike by members of the United Auto Workers union that has paralyzed the company's factories.

With the strike by factory workers against General Motors in its 29th day, there are signs that negotiators may be moving toward an agreement.

UAW workers continue to walk the picket line on what is now week five of the strike against GM.

When the strike first started, people were out in t-shirts and shorts, however, they're bundled up around a fire now. Closing in on a month and some good news for these workers came though, in the form of 25 extra dollars a week in strike pay. 

Officials have confirmed that Striking General Motors employees will get an additional $265 and can now work part time jobs.
