A billboard in Lowell was damaged over the weekend when someone backed a truck up to the sign, put up a ladder and then changed the wording on the sign. "A group of independent citizens created the website a few months ago and came together you create and fund the billboard," local resident Rob Schroeder said. "We have been very vocal but strategic in our approach." Schroeder said they are offering a reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the vandal. 

Detroit Fire official charged with federal child pornography counts

A Detroit fire official is on leave after he was named in a federal complaint involving multiple counts of seeking or possessing child pornography. Derek Marshall McMenemy was charged with two counts out of the U.S. District Court of Eastern Michigan following a multi-year investigation into sexually explicit chats that took place over a messaging application. He is currently on leave without pay, according to the Detroit Fire Department.

Why the US cyclospora outbreak is difficult to trace

Federal investigators say the cyclospora parasite behind the suspected illnesses of thousands of Americans has been unusually difficult to trace. Experts say it does not leave behind any culturable samples and no genetic fingerprints, which forces officials to rely almost exclusively on patient interviews instead of lab confirmation.
