"Incubation" by Ruby Flwrs opens Friday, August 29th to the public
video

To love Detroit is to know art is ingrained in the fabric of its culture. The city is teeming with talented creatives who take their life experiences and translate them to visual stories. Detroit visual artist Ruby Flwrs is at the epicenter of the culture, telling her story one painting at a time. Ruby is set to host her second art exhibition titled, “Incubation” on August 29th at the AKOMA Art House. It will be a two day event with an opening reception on Friday, Aug 29th and an artist talk/closing reception on Saturday, Aug. 30th. The exhibition was created during what has been one of the most transformative chapters of her life—pregnancy. Each piece is drawn from diary entries, late-night reflections, and the quiet conversations she has had with herself and her child. “INCUBATION” is both a love letter and a roadmap—an offering to her child, and a reminder to herself of the beauty and complexity of becoming a mother. The event will be curated by Oshun Williams and hosted by Mandisa Smith. Bre Teamer chats with Ruby about the exhibition.
