A joint venture between General Motors and South Korean battery company LG Energy Solution has closed on a $2.5 billion federal loan to help finance three lithium-ion battery cell plants in Ohio, Tennessee, and Michigan.

The United Auto Workers union is adding 900 members at an Ohio electric vehicle battery plant, the first EV workers to join the UAW.

General Motors has set a goal of selling only electric passenger vehicles by 2035 and says it will sell more EVs than Tesla by 2025.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says in documents Thursday that having both lights on at the same time could cause glare, increasing the risk of a crash.

GMC has unveiled its third electric vehicle -- the 2024 Sierra EV Denali.

"Our headquarters will always be in Detroit," GM CEO Mary Barra said. The company takes up about one and a half of the towers at the Renaissance Center.

Even in a wobbly economy, the automaker CEO isn't backing off the audacious prediction to overtake Tesla. She faces some long odds in the next 2 1/2 years.

General Motors and Pilot have teamed to build a network of fast EV chargers at truck stops across the country.

Subsidiary workers at several GM plants were set to begin striking if a deal was not reached. GM and UAW struck a tentative deal to avoid that.

"Clearly the demand for our new products is very strong," Lawler said, "yet we continue to have issues with supply of chips, which constrained us, and in particular here in North America, it hit us disproportionately on our large vehicles."

It's a big week for electric vehicles. In addition to GM's corvette announcement, Ford is also showing off its new electric F-150 lighting this week.
