Residents might be tired of the rain, but the recent storms have all but erased the local drought conditions. Expect some more pleasant weather this weekend.

The "most significant rainstorm" in decades flooded Wayne County in late June. Federal officials are in Detroit Thursday to assess the damage following a request by the governor.

"Crews are on 12-hour shifts trying to maintain and reopen streets and assess all of the damage," said Charles Eudy, Farmington, Superintendent of Public Works.

The city of Detroit is working to get residents the help they need after the June floods as it waits for the federal government to declare a disaster in the city.

The storm that pushed into Farmington Hills on Wednesday was not a tornado, despite the damage that was done. Instead, it's believed it was a microburst which may look similar to the untrained eye.

Showers and storms will be around this morning and the afternoon/evening. While our severe threat is significantly lower today vs. yesterday there is still decent potential for some damage.

Just as bands of powerful storms have started to roll through Southeast Michigan Wednesday many have been left in the dark.

Some scattered showers and or thundershowers are still possible Wed overnight. A few more thundershowers are likely Thursday but severe weather is not likely.  Thursday's high will be near 80.

Wednesday’s storm made a mess of Metro Detroit and the Farmington area was one of the hardest hit. Downed trees blocked roads, and downed wires to freeways.

We hit 92 degrees on Tuesday - the hottest recorded temperature of 2021. But with relief comes a price, and it'll be in the form of afternoon thunderstorms with the potential for severe wind gusts.

Expect another warm and humid day Wednesday with an even better chance for scattered showers and storms, especially for the afternoon hours. The expected high is 87.
