MDOT announced Thursday that southbound I-75 was open again almost 24 hours after a tree trimmer truck with a crane that hadn't been properly stored crashed into an overpass.

While responding for backup, Detroit police officers heading on the I-96 service drive collided with a Lexus car at the West Chicago intersection. A 58-year-old driver of the passenger car was declared dead at the hospital.

"The service drive runs along I-75 but depending on the volume, it might be better to go west and take Woodward south to McNichols and go back east and get back on southbound I-75," said Diane Cross from MDOT.

A tree trimmer truck with a crane that hadn't been properly stored crashed into the Savanah Road Overpass Wednesday afternoon, fracturing part of the steel on the bridge.

As a vehicle was crossing through an intersection on Northline and Telegraph, another vehicle ran a red light and crashed into the victim. The driver received multiple broken ribs and a lacerated liver. The passenger, a 12-year-old girl, died.
