Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens introduces bill to lower prescription drug costs

Michigan Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Rochester Hills) introduced HB4669 in an effort to curb prescription drug prices and clear up the medicare enrollment process. The bill, titled Maximizing Drug Coverage for Low-Income Senior Act, is designed to lower the cost of prescription drugs that medicare beneficiaries struggle to pay for. Under Medicare's Low-Income Subsidy program, seniors with low wages have their prescription drugs partially or fully covered by Medicare Part D, a subsection of the federal health insurance plan.

Ferndale votes unanimously to ban conversion therapy in city

During Monday's regular meeting, Ferndale's city council voted unanimously to outlaw conversion therapy - the controversial practice of trying to change individuals who identify as gay, lesbian or anywhere else on the LGBTQAI spectrum. The ban will go into effect once the ordinance has been published.

Shelby Township woman backs into the squad car after traffic stop for hit-and-run

Following reports of a hit-and-run incident, police were interviewing one of the victims in a Rochester Hills subdivision when the alleged suspect drove by the two. After pointing out the driver, the officer initiated a traffic stop. When the officer asked the driver to put her car into park, the 54-year-old Shelby Township resident backed into the squad car. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital for a blood test and was arrested for operating a vehicle while under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident.

A student in Pontiac could be facing criminal charges after he indicated to his teacher that he liked "killing people." A "kill list" that also detailed various weapons was then found in the student's possession. 

Oak Park just put your Nine Mile on a diet

Meet your new Nine Mile. It's slimmed down and shed a few exits, added a few new lanes and beautified some sections as well. Oak Park has put the road on a diet to reduce traffic accidents while increasing walkability and bikeability as well. When it's done, the redesigned Nine Mile will stretch from Ferndale to Southfield and include two fewer lanes. While not a radically new idea, this new urban planning model is a burgeoning trend among cities.

89-year-old hospitalized after crash with MSP trooper

A 89-year-old man was hurt Thursday morning when a Michigan State Police trooper crashed into his car while heading to the scene of a different accident.

Northbound I-75 reopened at 12 Mile after crash in construction zone 

Traffic heading north up I-75 was at a standstill starting at 12 Mile because of a crash at Big Beaver Tuesday morning, but it was cleared just a couple of hours later.
